At King Edward College we introduce the students to university options as early as January in their first year with us. This is covered in both group progress sessions and 1:1 settings. Students are encouraged to start thinking about the courses they wish to consider and will be advised as to how they can best prepare for a successful application. They will also be given information about the student finance system to help alleviate worries about the cost of going to university.
Potential medics, vets, dentists and Oxbridge candidates will also be identified early in Year 12 in order that they can be mentored throughout the process. Students are also invited to the Oxbridge Conference in Birmingham in March to have the opportunity to research as much as possible about studying at Oxford or Cambridge.
In June of their first year of study at the college students will register their details on the UCAS website in readiness for the start of the application process in the autumn. They will also benefit from personal statement preparation sessions with the help of university representatives and their Progress Coaches.
The Progress Team is pivotal to the university application cycle and students are supported through the process from beginning to end; including personal statement checks, reference collation and advice on appropriate courses.
