Art & Design – A Level
Overview:The course is designed to nurture independence, creativity and a deeper understanding of the visual world. During their first year students will study a central theme that is divided into focused workshops, exploring a variety of 2D and 3D media, processes and techniques and developing observational and evaluative skills. The first year will culminate in each student building a portfolio which will be assessed in order to determine their suitability to continue onto the second year of the course. Assessment is divided between coursework worth 60% and an examination worth 40% and will determine the overall grade for the A Level.
We offer an additional one year Art Foundation course which is highly recommended for students who wish to develop their portfolio and progress onto an Art or Design based degree.
I found that by studying Art & Design at AS and A2 has enabled me to grow as an Artist and as a person. My own personal style has been allowed to flourish due to the understanding I have gained throughout the past two years. I am now into a third year studying Art full time on King Edward VI’s Art Foundation course. Foundation has helped me to refine my practice. I get a lot of support from my peers and from the tutors. I work in a safe, honest and open environment that allows me to express my passion in a productive way that I hope to take with me on to University.
