BTEC Extended Certificate Dance

Qualification: Level 3
Assessment: Assessment is based on 8 units, which are measured at either a pass, merit or distinction. These assessments include a combination of written and practical work. Students must gain a pass on all 8 units. A merit gains 15 points and a distinction gains 30 points. For students to gain an overall merit they would have to gain 90 points. For students to gain an overall distinction they would have to gain 150 points. All units have designated assignment briefs, which explain the assessment criteria and break it down into tasks.

The BTEC diploma consists of six units of study, being delivered over a two year period. This includes three mandatory units, being Dance Performance, Performing to an Audience and The Dance Workshop. There are a wide range of units that can be studied and are chosen specifically to suit each cohort of students. The units are practical based, although theory is covered in relation to practice. This course is ideal for any students who wish to build upon their practical skills and experience within the subject of performing arts, whilst gaining a Nationally recognized qualification.
College entry requirements. Students are to have prior experience within dance and are accepted subject to an informal practical workshop and interview.
Two Years
Students will be required to supply their own specialist materials.
Students are provided with the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques; personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life. Students obtaining the qualification will have the option to further their expertise, by studying a further year at the college to gain certification within complimentary subject styles. Students may also wish to progress into higher education or undertake jobs within the industry.
Students must be willing to broaden their knowledge base and skills in marketing and all performance genres (specialising in movement and dance). Students are required to participate in extra curricula workshops and performances. Uniform is to be supplied by the student and must be in correlation with the specific unit requirement. Tracksuits are available to order at the start of every academic year.  Students will have a variety of performance opportunities, and industry related trips.
