This is a challenging and rigorous course which develops analytical and problem-solving skills through learning and applying mathematical techniques and methods. The course will be of interest to those who enjoy the satisfaction of solving problems. The Pure (or core) Mathematics course includes work involving aspects of algebra, co-ordinate geometry,trigonometry, calculus, numerical methods and vectors. The applied units take those skills and apply them in the areas of Statistics and Mechanics.
Minimum College Entry Requirements (5 A*-C or equivalent) including Maths 6
Two years 
£5 at enrolment to cover photocopying costs.  Students will also be recommended to purchase their own textbooks covering the course.
Many A Level students continue their studies at degree level in this or a related subject. It is necessary for thefurther study of Mathematics at University and frequently required for many other subjects, particularly the Sciences and Engineering. Many Universities also require the study of Further Mathematics for Mathematics degrees.
This is a well-regarded qualification that has thepotential to open up many doors in the future. It will support anyone who is studying a subject which involves some work with figures or data especially Science subjects like Economics and Psychology.

What are your hobbies/interests? Kayaking, Hiking, Archery, Chess, Juggling, Caves, Ruins, and National Trust visits!

What are your qualifications? B.Sc Mathematics with Astronomy, P.G.C.E., M.Sc Mathematical Education

Teaching experience? I have been teaching A level maths for 25 years. I have taught all topics up to and including Further Maths, AEA and STEP (Cambridge entrance papers)

What other relevant experience/qualifications do you have?

I have been Head of Department at Northampton School for Boys, Assistant Principle at Lutterworth College and Lead Teacher at Huxlow Science College. I have also led mathematics teacher training in Northampton with the Northampton Teacher Training Partnership. I have taken groups of students all over the country to take part in maths competitions. In terms of extra curricula activities, I have taken groups skiing to Austria, Italy and Canada. I have also run trips to Greece, Boston (USA), Morocco and Borneo, as well as many others.

What are your hobbies/interests? Golf, Football, skiing, swimming and cycling, although as the father of 3 young children I do not get the chance to do much of that these days! I am also interested in Astronomy, Psychology applied to education and recreational mathematics. Finally I am an expert on Frozen, Peter Rabbit and The Octonauts!

PGCE Secondary Mathematics including A-level, University of Leicester, Ph.D. Engineering (Experimental Fluid Mechanics), University of Leicester, BEng(Hons) Upper Second Class, Mechanical Engineering With Industry, University of Leicester, Undergraduate Certificate in Industrial Studies, University of Leicester.

Teaching experience? 2013-current King Edward VI college teaching AS and A2 Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Use of Mathematics. 2006-2013 Countesthorpe Community College in Leicestershire. Key stage 4 (including Special Need and Alternative Curriculum groups) and a significant amount of A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Had additional responsibility of the Teaching and Learning of Post 16 Mathematics across the department and the use of IT in the classroom. 2005-2006 The Kingswood School in Corby teaching a broad range of Key Stage 2 and 3 classes. 2004-2005 PGSE with placements at Countesthorpe Community College in South Leicestershire and Moat Community College in Leicester.
